Sponsorship for Jazz-N-The-Schools

Turning the minds of our youth away from sex and violence to music made by saxophones and violins

2008 TVJS Sponsorship form

“Jazz Education-in-the-Schools” is a program designed to supplement the mandated curriculums in the
public schools. This programs, which takes place January through May, provides a basis for
understanding the origin and culture of jazz music. Live combos go into the schools and present educational concerts to the
entire student body, targeting grades K-8th. Jazz Education is also used to illustrate the connection
between music, math and science, thereby making learning fun, while building future
audiences for the art. “Jazz Education-in-the-Schools” along with other positive programs will help ensure the vision for the kind of village our youth deserve.

Since 1998, the Tennessee Valley Jazz Society (TVJS) has presented music education programs to nearly 17,500 young people in Madison County/Tennessee Valley. Our long-term goals are to continue developing ongoing relationships with school systems to help in fulfilling their part-time art and culture curriculum. We know that participation in music and arts programs enhances intellectual development and cultural awareness because numerous scientific studies and jazz education materials support this belief. Reference the International Association of Jazz Educators Web site for farther
information.

The Alabama State Council on the Arts this year awarded the Tennessee Valley Jazz Society a matching
grant of $8,000 from for its “Jazz Education-in-the-Schools” initiative. As in past years the Tennessee Valley
Jazz Society relies on businesses and individuals to match the Alabama State Council on the Arts grant. Our
goal this year for matching the Alabama grant is $10,000 and we ask for your financial help to fulfill our
mission. With these funds, “Jazz Education-in-the-Schools” will present concerts to over 30 schools in the
Tennessee Valley. You can sponsor from 1 to 30 schools, see sponsorship form. As a special acknowledgement,
your contributions and support to community service projects will be advertised on TVJS website and all of our programs and brochures.
